Description	:	Leonard Kreachbaum was born to Walter Kreachbaum and Anna Johnson Kreachbaum n Nov. 3, 1909, on a farm hear Sutton, and passed away Dec. 27, 2003, at Heritage Crossings in Geneva at the age of 94 years, one moth and 24 days. He was one of seven children in the family. Leonard attended country school in District 31 in Fillmore County, and graduated from Sutton High School in 1929. In the 1930's he farmed, with his father in Grafton Township. In the 1940's, he worked in the defense effort of World War II. On Jan. 15, 1944, he was inducted into the Army, serving with the Army Engineers at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. He was honorably discharged on June 29, 1944. Following the war, Leonard worked for contractors, building bridges, roads and highways. Leonard was a devout Christian who earnestly believed in the prophecy of the Bible. In later years, he spent countless hours meticulously maintaining what was fondly called the "Dugout" located just to the north of Dr. Charles Ashby's residence. He spent many hours in the garden there and in maintaining the property. He was a man of stern independence and strong will. Leonard was married to Eleanora Diederich of Geneva on Jan 16, 1945. No children were born to this marriage. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Anna Krechbaum; wife Eleanora; brothers William and Lester; and sister Lillie Bumgardner. He is survived by his sisters Pearl Traudt; Beaulah Mau; and Deloris Shoemaker; sister-in-law Ann Strothkamp; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 30 from the Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva with Mr. Chet Frey officiating. Musical selections for the service were "In the Garden" and "Just a Closer Walk With Thee. Casket bearers were LeRoy Traudt, Timothy Traudt, Bob Nunns and Rob Nunns.
