Read More	SOURCE: Death Certificate: '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' Leonard Leidholt, age 92, of Miles City passed away on Monday, May 17, 2010 at the Holy Rosary Extended Care in Miles City. Leonard was born on January 30, 1918 in Loyalton, South Dakota, the second oldest and first born son of the thirteen children born to Karl and Rosina (Bauer) Leidholt. The family moved from South Dakota to Montana by means of an immigrant train, getting them as close as possible to their destination below the base of Sheep Mountain. After moving to several locations in the next few years they settled on a homestead along Crow Rock Creek. Leonard took his first full time job at the age of thirteen herding sheep by himself. During the course of this job he taught himself to play the guitar and the harmonica. In 1936, Leonard hitched a ride to Miles City with a couple of gamblers coming from Jordan. After a couple of short term jobs, Leonard started a 42 year career working for the Milwaukee Railroad until his retirement in 1978. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II as a Seabee in the United States Navy and was discharged in March of 1946 with the rank of 3rd Class Petty Officer. Leonard became the husband of Pauline Herauf on February 22, 1945, a marriage that lasted for 65 years. To this union were born four daughters: Lynne Rae, Karleen, Darci and Stephanie. All that knew Leonard would agree that he was always self-sufficient. With only a grade school education, Leonard was more than able to figure out anything including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, concrete, welding Anything. As a sideline business, Leonard put up awnings throughout the county, owned and maintained apartment buildings. In his spare time he did maintenance at the Sacred Heart Church and worked countless hours helping his siblings and son-in-laws on housing projects. One of Leonards accomplishments at the church was to install a light on the cross at the top of the bell tower, which still shines to this day. Leonard and Pauline traveled all over the world going to square dances and Leonard also learned to call them. Summers would find the family fishing on their vacations throughout the state. He was a member of the Milwaukee Carman, Sacred Heart Church and the Eagles Club. Leonard was preceded in death by his sisters: Martha, Mathilda (Tillie), and Margret (Peggy); brothers: Julius, Edwin and Adolf; two grandsons: Paul Hazelton Jr. and Christopher Rodgers. He is survived by his wife Pauline; four daughters: Lynne Rae Hazelton (Paul), Karleen Rodgers (Derrick), Darci Donnelly (Tim) and Stephanie Thomason (Kevin) all of Miles City, MT; his brothers: Robert (Katherine), Philip(Beverly), Eugene (Jeanne), James (Jessie) all of Miles City, MT; sisters: Alma Hartman and special friend John Schaeffer of Washington, Violet Howe (John) of Miles City, MT and sister-in-laws: Wilma Leidholt of Miles City and Barbara Leidholt of Billings, MT; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A vigil service will follow on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City. Rite of Committal will follow in the family lot of the Calvary Cemetery with full military honors provided by VFW Post 1579.
