Norman Olstad was born October 4, 1916, in Litchville, the son of Nels and Laura (Hatrund) Olstad. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church, Litchville. Norman attended school at Litchville High School. Norman was united in marriage to Lila Pinke on September 6, 1939, at LaMoure. They made their home in the Litchville-Marion area where they farmed for 18 years. They moved to Valley City in 1957. He then worked as the manager of the seed cleaning plant at Peavey Grain Elevator, Marion, for 30 years. He retired in 1988. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Valley City for 47 years, where he was active as an usher. Norman is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lila, two sons, Ronald (Judy) jand Melvin (Norene) all of Valley City; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Other survivors include one sister, Ethel (Allen) Hanson, Dacono, CO; four brothers, Erling (Verna) Olstad, Valley City, Daniel (Vivian) Olstad, Valley City; Morris (mildred) Olstad, American Canyon, CA; David (Edith) Olstad, Hastings, MN; one sister-in-law, Barbara Olstad, Modesto, CA; and one daughter-in-law, Lois Olstad, Humboldt, Iowa.
