O. Reeder shot and killed himself at his ranch home between Hatton and Lind at 2 o'clock Friday morning. The bullet passed thru his head and on thru the glass of a window of the room, killing him instantly. Despondency is thought to be the cause of the suicide. He was buried last Sunday at the Michigan Prairie cemetery, the services being held at the home. A very large crowd attended the funeral. There were some fifty automobiles and many prominent citizens present. Mr. Reeder was a very prominent farmer and it is lamented that his death should be such. Mr. Reeder had lived in this country practically all his life and was well liked and known by all. In 1900 he married Miss Inez Hughes ("Hughes" lined out and "Huse" handwritten above) at Hatton. After a few years farming experience he moved to the ranch where he lived up to the time of his death. Mr. Reeder was a good farmer and quite an extensive land owner. His place on Michigan Prairie is one of the nicest and most modern in the country. Mr. Reeder a few years ago became afflicted to drink and finally became a habitual drunkard. It was because of this weakness that he met his down fall. He became careless of his money and finally so desperate in his persuit (sic) of liquor that his wife was compelled to take control of his interests. From this point Mr. Reeder went from bad to worse and after exhausting all attainable means toward the obstainance (sic) of liquor he became despondent and shot himself in the head last Friday. Mr. Reeder had locked himself in a room and executed the deed with a Colt 32 Automatic. One of the hired men heard the shot and breaking into the room found Mr. Reeder as he was breathing his last. Dr. Henderson and Dr. Hewitt, the county corner, were immediately called. Dr. Hewitt, did not consider it necessary to hold an inquest. Mr. Reeder was a man of about 36 years.
