Leonard lived most of his life in and around Kellogg in Jasper County, Iowa. He attended Kellogg County schools and Laurel High School. Stecher was born October 14, 1910, six miles north of Kellogg, Iowa. He was the son of Joseph J. and Rosa Lanz Stecher. Leonard lived most of his life in and around Kellogg in Jasper County, Iowa. He attended Kellogg County schools and Laurel High School. On September 21, 1932, Leonard was united in marriage with Juanita Madoll in Aledo, Illinois. Leonard farmed many years north of Kellogg. He had previously worked at harvesting for area farmers, in particular picking corn. During World War II, he operated Stecher's Tractor Service. In 1947, Leonard and Juanita moved near Grand Rapids, Minnesota, where they operated Splithand Stopping Spot. They moved back to Kellogg where Leonard worked as a mechanic for the Killduff Motor Company. In 1968, he went to work for the ASCS at the bin sites near Newburg, Iowa and Laurel, Iowa. Leonard loved farm life and loved his family. Death came to Leonard at the age of 95 on Monday evening, January 9, 2006, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Juanita on June 26, 1994; his brothers Ralph E. and Barney, and his sister, Mabel. Those left to honor Leonard's memory include his daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Ray Pille of Haverhill, IA; his grandchildren: Steven and Deb Pille and Galen Pille; his great-grandchildren, Eric, Kurt, Rachel, Isaac, and Seth. Funeral services were held at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton on Saturday, January 14, 2006, conducted by Dan Ehler. Interment was at Our Silent City, Kellogg, IA. ******************************************* KELLOGG — Leonard "Pecks" Stecher, 95, of Kellogg died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. A funeral service will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be at Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in his name or to Kellogg Historical Society. The son of Joseph J. Stecher and Rosa (Lanz) Stecher, he was born Oct. 14, 1910, in rural Kellogg. He attended Kellogg area schools and Laurel High School for one year. On Sept. 21, 1932, he married Juanita Madoll in Aledo, Ill. He farmed until 1947 and ran Splithand Stopping Resort in Minnesota for six years. He worked on tractors during World War II, was a mechanic for Killduff Motor Company, and in 1968, he went to work for ASCS near Newberg. He was a member of Jasper County Historical Society and Kellogg Historical Society. He is survived by a daughter, Shirley (Ray) Pille of Haverhill; two grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.
