Description	:	LeRoy Allen Belgum, 97, of Albion, formerly of Fullerton, passed away Monday, August 3, 2020, at Good Samaritan Society-Wolf Memorial in Albion. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 7, 2020, at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion with Reverend Carolann Hopcke officiating. The funeral will be broadcasted on Zion Lutheran Church’s Facebook page. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion with military honors by American Legion Post #162 of Albion and U.S. Army Honor Guard. Leroy was born September 3, 1922 to Gustav and Christina (Nelson) Belgum in Albion. He attended a rural school District #19 in rural Boone County until the 8th grade. After, he helped his parents farm on the family farm. In April 1945, he was drafted in the United States Army. He was a sergeant in the 674th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion for two years during World War II, part of his service was spent in Japan. He was honorably discharged in April 1947. On May 25, 1951, he married Dorothy Nissen. They farmed in the Albion and Belgrade area until his retirement when they moved to Fullerton. For the past three years, he lived in Albion at Good Samaritan Society. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, shuffleboard, and playing pitch with friends and family. He was a huge sports fan and loved watching the Huskers play. He also loved going to all his grandchildren’s activities. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Albion; children, Vicki (Terry) Strain of Genoa, Michael Belgum of Shelby, Douglas (Carolyn) Belgum of Cedar Rapids, Eric (Chris) Belgum of Hastings, and Allen (Pamela) Belgum of Valparaiso; and 19 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, LaVern (Arlene) Nissen of Petersburg; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Denise Nelson; granddaughter, Michala Belgum; his parents; siblings, Gordon (Mary) Belgum, Burt (Dorothy) Belgum, Carol (Melvin) Strong, and Arlene (Jess) Wallick; father and mother-in-law, William and Mary Nissen; sister-in-law, Marjorie (Eugene) Von Bonn; and brother-in-law, Gerald (Marilyn) Nissen.
