LeRoy was diagnosed with a non-typical form of Parkinson’s Disease and most recently diagnosed with lung cancer. LeRoy was born on May 2nd, 1951 to Edwin and Hilda (Frank) Flegel in Linton, ND. He was raised on a farm in Hazelton ND, where he milked cows, broke horses and did numerous chores. He loved wrestling and playing football. LeRoy graduated from Hazelton High School in 1969 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He had a skill of typing and he was assigned to an USMC unit in Camp Pendleton, (San Diego CA) during the Vietnam War conflict. LeRoy returned to ND to work various jobs and then settled in with the Burlington Northern Railroad in Mandan, ND. LeRoy met his wife Valerie(Gallagher) in Mandan and they were married on May 24th, 1975. LeRoy and Valerie had two sons. The couple moved to Medina, ND in 1976. LeRoy enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, gardening, yard work, and training his dogs. He retired from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway as a track inspector with over 30 years of service. He was a volunteer Hunter Safety Instructor with the ND Game & Fish Dept. sponsored by the Medina Sportsman Club and was member of the American Legion Adam Job post # 245. He enjoyed spending time with family, supported Medina athletics and also had a passion for the MN Vikings. LeRoy E. Flegel leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Valerie (Gallagher), a son Chris (Shannon), three granddaughters, a brother Virgil, sisters Pam, Connie, Annette, Rhonda and Sister-in-Law Patty (Arlo) Flegel. LeRoy was preceded in death by his son, Samuel, his parents Edwin and Hilda (Frank) Flegel, a brother Arlo (Patty) Flegel, Sister Janice(Frank) Holzer, a brother-in-law Chuck (Connie) Conley, nephew Cory Flegel and niece Elizabeth Flegel. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 8, 2016 at St. Mathias Catholic Church, Windsor, ND, with Father Joe Barrett officiating. Interment: St. Pauline Cemetery, Windsor, North Dakota.
