Description	:	LeRoy "Roy" Edward Ellis, son of John Pearl Ellis and Carrie Jane Taylor, was born July 28, 1917 at Postville, Iowa. He passed away October 7, 1983 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Postville, Iowa. Funeral services were held at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville, Iowa and interment was in the Postville Cemetery in Postville, Iowa. Roy attended the Postville Community Schools. He passed away October 7, 1983 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Postville, Iowa. Funeral services were held at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville, Iowa and interment was in the Postville Cemetery in Postville, Iowa. Roy attended the Postville Community Schools. As a young boy he was stricken with polio. He was hospitalized at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. The doctors cut the ligaments in his legs and he was never able to walk again. His disability did not prevent him from doing many things in his life. He used a large sized child's wagon to get from place to place by using one hand to steer and the other hand to provide some extra "Push". When he was old enough to drive a car, his older brother Kenneth, rigged up a hand control for the brakes and the clutch. This contraption was adaptable for each car that he would own in his lifetime. He liked to visit family and friends. He would call them ahead of time. When he arrived, if it was the Winter time, he would honk his horn, and one or two of the stronger guys would carry him to the house. If it was good Spring, Summer, or Falle weather, he would let himself out of the car and crawl to the house. Roy loved to go squirrel hunting in the fall. He hunted with others. He would be carried to a spot and after he got comfortable under a tree, he would wait, while the others went on their way to get their limit. Upon their return, they would ask Roy, "We heard shooting - did you get anything?" "Sure, there is one over there, one over there, and one over there." He usually had his limit while frequently the others got skunked! Roy repaired furniture, refinished furniture, did upholstery work, and recaned chairs. He had many repeat customers and word of mouth always brought in new customers because they knew his work was quality. On August 17, 1957 Roy married Marilyn Bray in Rock Island, Illinois. They had three children. They lived in Postville, and in Castalia, Iowa. They later divorced. Roy is survived by his daughter Deborah (Mrs. Earl Brainard), and two sons Donald E., and Scott A. Ellis, all of Castalia, Iowa; a grandson, Christopher Ellis; three brothers Kenneth and Clifford "Kip" Ellis both of Postville and Lloyd "Curly" Ellis of Moline, Illinois; and two sisters Naomi (Mrs. Irvin Hull) of Diamond City, Arkansas and Iva Bruckner of North Ft. Myers, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Lyle Ellis, and a sister Ruby (Mrs. Theodore Crago).
