Mr. Root died November 30 at his home in Albion. Cynthia Kraus was organist. EME's were Ann Harris, Jodi Krohn, Marvin and Robin Labenz. Servers were Joe Anselmo and Rachel Jacobs. Leroy Frederick Root, the son of Leroy and Mary (Sutton) Root Sr., was born May 21,1915, at Ellsworth, KS. He was baptized at St. Mary's Church in Wichita, KS, and confirmed at Sacred Heart Church in Washington, DC. He attended school in Wichita, KS, and graduated from Wichita North High School in 1933. He joined the National Guard and then the U.S. Army Calvary at Fort Riley, KS. He attended Wichita Business College, and later attended George Washington University. On September 7, 1939, he married Dolores Miller at St. Mary's Church in Wichita. The couple lived in Washington, DC, where Leroy worked for the Civil Service. During World War II he served i n the U.S. Navy. In 1961 they moved to Rapid City, SD, where he worked in contract management with the Air Force Missile Program. They then lived in various communities throughout the west In 1972 Leroy retired from the Civil Service and they moved to Australia where they operated a banana and avocado plantation. In 1975 they moved to Tucson, AZ, and in 1990 they moved to Albion. Leroy was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St Michael's Catholic Church in Albion. Survivors include his wife, Dolores of Albion; one daughter, Mary Catherine Anselmo of Los Angeles, CA; six grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; and one brother, Edwin Root of Detroit MI. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael; one brother, James; and one sister, Louise.
