Description	:	Leroy was the son of Albert Onken and Mary Best. He had typhoid fever. April 4, 1916 Carroll Times - Albert C. Onken and his wife, Mary, were sorely bereaved when the angel of death took from their side their oldest child and only son, Leroy James. April 4, 1916 Carroll Times - Albert C. Onken and his wife, Mary, were sorely bereaved when the angel of death took from their side their oldest child and only son, Leroy James. Leroy died at the Carroll hospital about midnight, April 20, the immediate cause of his death being typhoid fever. He was taken sick Sunday, April 9, and received the best of care at home. At one time it even seemed as though he were on the road to recovery. But when on Good Friday there was a decided change for the worse, he was taken to the hospital. Though doctor and attendants did everything within their power to save the young man's life, their efforts were in vain. From Saturday until the hour of his death he was continually in a state of coma, for which reason he was not able to bid a last farewell to those who so dearly loved him. He had lived to be 15 years, 2 months and 12 days of age. Funeral services were held at the parental home at Saturday afternoon, Rev. H.P. Schmidt delivering the address. Six girls, former schoolmates of Leroy, served as flower girls, carrying large bouquets of cut flowers; the casket, too, was literally covered with the many beautiful floral offerings of friends. An auto hearse conveyed the remains to their last resting place at "Silent City," Carroll. It was the first funeral procession in this neighborhood composed entirely of automobiles. May Leroy rest in peace unto the day of resurrection. Sincere sympathy is herewith extended to the bereaved parents; may the Balm of Gilead heal the wounds that death has inflicted.
