Mr. Armstrong was born on June 16, 1866 in Orange County, and later made his home in the Mabel Memorial Chapel community and in Harrisonburg for a number of years prior to moving to Baltimore 30 years ago. He was a Veteran bridge builder and was employed by the C. and W., C. and O., and the Patapsco and Back River Railroads, for a number of years. He suffered a fractured hip three weeks ago and since that time his condition had grown progressively worse with little promise being held for his recovery because of his advanced age. He is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Elsie Pence, of Sparrows Point, Md., and Mrs. Myrtle Pence, Mrs. Jessye Carroll, Mrs. Ruth Swanson, Mrs. Willie Plunkert, and Mrs. Ruby Hardy, all of Baltimore, Charles Armstrong, of Annapolis, Md., and Leroy Armstrong Jr., of Harrisonburg. He also leaves thirty grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. His wife the former Anna F. Beach, preceded him in death in April 1948.
