The dead are Leroy Arlt, 31, son of Carl Arlt, Ritzville wheat grower, and Mrs. Lydia M. Billesbach, Odessa, operator of the Hotel Odessa, the pilot, and his passenger, Ray Richter, 30, native of California, who had been discharged from the army Thursday at Fort Lewis after completing service with the US occupational forces in Germany. The plane, a four-place Stinson, nosed into a wheat field scarcely 200 yards from the farm home of John Hennings, 13 miles east of Ritzville, after hitting rural telephone lines over the Telecky farm. The plane was demolished and Richter killed outright. The wreckage did not burn. Arlt died shortly after arriving at the Deaconess hospital, Spokane. The plane had taken off from Ritzville airport. The fatal flight was a salute to the parents of Richter's wife, Anne, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Hennings, whose farm adjoins the John Hennings ranch. Richter and his wife and their small daughter, Linda, were staying at the C H Henning farm home. It is not believed the parents or Richter's wife saw the plane crash. John Hennings witnessed the accident. CAA officials, Deputy Sheriff Clinton Rowe and Coroner Richard Whitmore investigated. Funeral services for Richter were held Monday morning and the Arlt service from a funeral home chapel at Ritzville in the afternoon. Robert Walter and David Schrag, Odessa, were among the pallbearers. Richard Zellmer of Davenport also acted. From Ritzville were Don Schwizow, Ben VanBuren and Orville Moeller. The Rev F. Ahrendt officiated. Members of the Odessa post of Veterans of Foreign Wars conducted the graveside service, Rev Ahrendt giving the committal. Arlt had four years with the US Navy. He farmed his own land in connection with his father, and was also an employee of the Norkem Company. He was also a member of the Odessa Gun Club.
