"Pete" Petersen was born on July 22, 1931 in Ottumwa, Iowa, and was the son of Engvirt and Nettie Hazel (Hayward) Petersen. He was a 1949 Wyoming High School graduate. "Pete" Petersen, 86, of Warrensburg, Missouri and formerly of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2017, at St. Lukes Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. LeRoy W. "Pete" Petersen was born on July 22, 1931 in Ottumwa, Iowa, and was the son of Engvirt and Nettie Hazel (Hayward) Petersen. He was a 1949 Wyoming High School graduate. He enlisted in the Navy and was a Seabee spending time in the South Pacific. After his discharge he began working for Joe Martin Chrysler Plymouth in Maquoketa, Iowa as a Parts Manager, working there for 39 years. When Joe Martin closed, he and LaVonne moved to Missouri where he worked for Warrensburg Chrysler as Parts Manager, retiring in 1992. He married LaVonne M. Ruggeberg on September 7, 1957 in Lost Nation, Iowa. "Pete" loved fine cars, his dogs and high quality trap shoot guns. He was known for never driving a car that was dirty or that did not have a show room shine on it. He had several Springer Spaniels and later made several rescue dogs his much loved favorite pets. He took up the hobby of trap shooting and enjoyed every match he was in for over 50 years. He became very good and won many trophies and awards over the years. He and LaVonne managed the Sedalia Rod and Gun Club over 15 years, making it a successful operation and making many close friends. "Pete" was a member of the Missouri trapshooters, the Amateur Trap Shooting Association and the Sedalia Rod and Gun Club. He is survived by his wife, LaVonne Petersen; and a brother-in-law, Leyland Ruggeberg. He was preceded in death by his parents. A graveside service and burial will be held at a later date from the Lost Nation, Iowa Cemetery. A natural journey farewell with cremation has taken place. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to Warrensburg Animal Shelter, City Hall, 102 S. Holden, Warrensburg, MO 64093 or S.T.A.F.F (Society for treatment of abandoned and fractured friends) P.O. Box 1324, Laurie, MO 65038.
