Death struck early Christmas as an automobile accident claimed the life of one Leroy Wofford. He died from injuries received at 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 1957. Death struck early Christmas as an automobile accident claimed the life of one Leroy Wofford. He died from injuries received at 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 1957. He was taken to Spartanburg General Hospital where he surcumb to his injuries. Police said Wofford was driving a 1957 Ford and was believed to be alone. They said the Wofford car collided with a 1949 Chevrolet which was parked on Magnolia Street near the Simple Simon. The parked car, believed owned by Leroy Brewington, was described as a total loss. Mr. Wofford, a Navy man, was the son ot Mr. and Mrs. Callie Wofford of Hobbeyville, SC, near Woodruff, SC. The injuries which brought death included deep lacerations in the throat, a possivle broken neck and internal injuries, city police reported. Investigating were City Policemen, W. E. Baker and J. C. Guthrie. This is the 30 traffic fatality in Spartanburg County, SC this year and the fourth in three days. Mr. Wofford was 34 years of age at his demise and interment was in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. (Original obituary was rewritten to conform to Findagrave Rules by Record Hunter.)
