Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Interment will be in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites by the combined units of the V.F.W. Visitation for Leslie will be held on Sunday, June 24, 2018 from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in Leslie’s name. Leslie Edward Whitmer was born on May 24, 1927 in Cedar County, Iowa, the son of Cyril Edward and Lillian M. (Miller) Whitmer. He proudly served his country in the Army Air Force from 1945-1947. On March 8, 1954, Leslie was united in marriage to Walyne Kay Rock and later divorced. He later married Ruth Louise Figg on August 12, 1990 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Leslie had retired from Bandag on May 1, 1987. He was a member of the Faith United Church of Christ and enjoyed farming, gardening and planting things, bird watching and his train sets. Leslie will be deeply missed by his son, Jeffrey (Joy) Whitmer of Eldridge; daughter, Angela Whitmer and fiancé, Skeet Cloyd Lewis, III of Muscatine; step daughters, Susan Connor and Julie (Myron) Paulson all of Wilton; daughter-in-law, Pat Whitmer of Muscatine; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Leslie was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth; son, Leslie Eugene Whitmer; grandson, Michael Whitmer; granddaughters, Katrina Ann-Lousie Hill and Jessica May Nyenhuis Young; sisters, Margaret Eiselstein and Minnie Kroeger and brother, Everett Whitmer.
