He was the son of Harry Leslie and Cornelia Lucille (Klein) Bennett. Les lived in the Harvey area most of his life, and graduated from Tracy High School in 1950. On SaturdaSeptember 2, 1950 he was united in marriage to Ramona Mae Pettyjohn. Les managed the Hunter Oil Company in Omaha; Douglas County, Nebraska for twelve years. When he moved back to Iowa, he began working for the Marion County Road Department, which he retired from in 1995. Les was a member of the Harvey United Methodist Church. In his spare time he enjoyed bowling and the outdoors, where he looked forward to going hunting and fishing. He also got a lot of pleasure from music and liked playing his guitar and singing.
