Description	:	PFC 401 Inf. 102 Inf WW II After graduating high school Lester moved to Waterloo, Iowa where he was employed by Rath Packing Company. He was drafted into the Army March, 1944 and reported for basic training at Camp Roberts California in May, 1944. He married Kathleen Dunbar while on furlough October 14, 1944 and was sent overseas immediately afterward. Lester arrived in France to join an infantry in December, 1944. Lester had 4 brothers, Herman and Henry who died in infancy, Arnold, Paul, and Lester; 5 sisters one died in infancy, Helena (Bergmann), Hilda (Holm), Adala (Woods), and Olinda (Hagedorn). Although Lester died in February 1945 and funeral services were held, his body was not recovered from Germany and sent home until 1949. Funeral and reburial was April 15, 1949 at St. Peter's Evangelical Church in Tripoli, Iowa. Lester and Kathleen's daughter Susan Kay was born after his death and was 3 years old at the time of final burial. The following information obtained through the World War II Memorial Registry: Private First Class, 407th Infantry Regiment, Company F, 102nd Ozark Division.
