Larson, age 82, of Watertown, SD, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014 at his home surrounded by family after a long courageous battle with both pancreatic and prostate cancer. Funeral service will be at 10:30 Monday, December 29, at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer with Pastor Chris Matson officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 on Sunday at Wight, Comes & Sogn Funeral Home in Watertown, and on Monday prior to the services. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Bricklayers Local # 5, and members of the Golden Age Club and the Senior Bowling League. Lester D. Larson, son of Oscar and Edith (Mattson) Larson, was born on November 16, 1932 in Roseau, MN, the 4th of 11 children. He served in the military from 1953-1954. He was on the ship going over to Korea when the Peace Treaty was signed. He married Marion Hagen Aason on November 19, 1960 in Bottineau, ND. They made many places their home traveling the Midwest while Les was a second generation bricklayer. Watertown became their home when he arrived here to work on St. Ann’s hospital and decided to make this their permanent home. He worked on many projects in Watertown including Prairie Lakes, Jenkins, Grace Lutheran Church, Native American Housing and many more projects. He was a life member of Bricklayer Local #5. He served many roles in Grace Lutheran Church including the Church Council and he placed the cornerstone in their new addition. He was a member of the Golden Age Club, the Senior Citizen Center, the VFW, the American Legion and the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, camping, traveling and wintering in Arizona as he was able to do for 28 years. Les married Arloa Zahrbock Knutson on August 27, 2005 in Starbuck, MN. They made their home in Watertown while still enjoying the winters in Mesa, AZ. Left to mourn his passing are wife, Arloa, his children, Monica (Harlan) Aason Barkley, Markesan,WI ; Candice (Roger) Billings, Watertown; Carletta (Steve) Hauck, Watertown; his daughter-in-law Linda (Ardell) Aason of Watertown; 12 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. His step-children, Kristi (Randy) Quitney, Steven (Kari), Scott(Jeanne) and Michael (Jackie) Knutson; 9 step-grandchildren and 1 step-great grandchild. His siblings Norma (Dean) Thompson, Warroad, MN, Orville (Leona), Milo (Kay), Lyla (Byron) Johnson all of International Falls, MN, , Loretta (Al) Grothe of Astoria, OR, Linda Westeen from Leesville, LA, his sisters-in-law Kay (Larry) Wallander Fargo, ND and Vivian Seier, Minot, ND.
