He was born October 16, 1931 in Graysville, MO to Harold H. and Blanche Smith Cain. He married Edith June Griffiths on March 12, 1950 and she preceded him in death on January 2, 2016. He was born October 16, 1931 in Graysville, MO to Harold H. and Blanche Smith Cain. He married Edith June Griffiths on March 12, 1950 and she preceded him in death on January 2, 2016. A resident of Ottumwa most of his life, he had worked at John Morrell and Co. for 23 years, Burlington Northern Santa Fe and John Deere Ottumwa Works where he retired in 1991. He was a charter member of North Court Baptist Church, Ottumwa Masonic Lodge #16 A.F. & A.M. where he was a Past Master in 1978 and a District Lecture and member of Ottumwa Shrine Club. He loved his grandchildren, collecting geodes, working in the yard and lovingly taking care of his wife, June. Surviving are three daughters, Pam (Bob) Shepard, Leslie (Steve) Shepard and Sue (Rod) Hunter; a son, Jim (Diana) Cain; 9 grandchildren, Michelle (Jim) Pirillo, James E. Cain, Melissa Strait, Doug (Samantha) Cain, Mandy Curnes, Mike (Jessica) Cain, Steven L. Shepard, Amanda Clark and Natalie Shepard and 23 great grandchildren; a brother, Jerry Cain. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Bryan Shepard and a sister, Nora Lou Duke. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 10 a.m. Tuesday. A Masonic Service will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home followed by family visitation until 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties.
