Lester was born on February 13, 1933, in Burlington, to Joe and Flora A. Shannon Decker. Lester grew up in Burlington and graduated from Burlington High School in 1952. During his life, he had co-owned and operated a Conoco Gas Station, and worked for the Economy Grocery Store and the Z&L Grocery Store. His last job was as the Superintendent for the City of Burlington Street Department until his retirement. Lester was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. He served in the Kansas National Guard from 1950 until 1970. He had served on the Burlington City Council and was instrumental in the construction of the first Burlington Airport west of John Redmond Reservoir. On December 28, 1953, he married Betty Louise Rohr, in Burlington. They were the parents of 2 daughters and 3 sons. Lester was preceded in death by his parents, a son Martin, four brothers, Clarence, Arthur, Elvin, and Virgil, a sister, Gladys Mays, and a son in law, Joe Gray. Lester is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home, his sons, Tim Decker and Kristin Smith, and Phil Decker and his wife Bonnie, both of Burlington, his daughters, Ginger Mefford and her husband David, and Vicki Gray, also of Burlington, a sister Hazel Ridpath, Wichita, 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, November 21, 2016, at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Burlington. There will be a Rosary on Sunday at 5:00 P.M., with Visitation following from 5:30 P.M. until 6:30 P.M., at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Contributions may be made to either, the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Alzheimer's Association, or the Hand in Hand Hospice, and may be sent in care of Jones Funeral Home, P.O.
