He died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016, at the Ambassador Health in Lincoln. --- Lester “Les” Ivan Meyer, son of William “Bill” and Mabel Christine (Brandt) Meyer, was born April 11, 1925, at Orchard. Les attended elementary school in Royal and graduated from Creighton High School in Creighton. On Nov. 22, 1947, Les was united in marriage to Betty Emsick Robinson at Royal. Les and Betty lived in Idaho, where he was employed by the railroad. They moved to Tilden, then to Valentine, back to Royal, before moving to Tilden again. They remained in Tilden until 2016, when they moved to Lincoln. Les was employed by Brunswick Oil and Asphalt and the City of Tilden. Les enjoyed boxing, playing Santa Claus at Christmas time for the residents of Tilden, and coaching league baseball. He was also a volunteer fireman for many years and was the Tilden Fire Chief from 1985 until 1999. He and Betty enjoyed being foster parents to numerous children. Les was also awarded the honor of “Citizen of the Year.” Les is survived by his spouse, Betty Meyer; children Dick (Stephanie) Meyer of Topeka, Kan., Rick (Sue) Meyer of Lincoln, Les (Trish) Meyer of Roca, Skip Meyer of Tilden, Sharon (Dewey) Raburn of McCook, Julie Jackson of Winside and Tina Kardell of Kearney; 22 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and sisters Wilma Morrison and Delores DePeel. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mabel Meyer; two brothers, Charlie and Bernard Meyer; and three grandchildren
