Description	:	Lester Schultz of Laurens, passed away on September 27, 2015, at the Laurens Care Center, on his 101'st birthday. Lester Walter Schultz was born September 27, 1914, at Merrill, Iowa. He was the son of George and Bessie (Robins) Schultz. He was the oldest of five children. He took over the family farm at Merrill, after his father's death. Lester married Ina Claypool on September 12, 1943, at Oelwein. The couple lived at the family farm until 1948, when they moved to another farm three miles away. Lester Walter Schultz was born September 27, 1914, at Merrill, Iowa. He was the son of George and Bessie (Robins) Schultz. He was the oldest of five children. He took over the family farm at Merrill, after his father's death. Lester married Ina Claypool on September 12, 1943, at Oelwein. The couple lived at the family farm until 1948, when they moved to another farm three miles away. During that time he had a dairy herd and also drove the school bus. In 1963, the family moved to the farm near Laurens. In 1986, they moved into Laurens. Lester retired in 1988. Ina passed away in July of 2012, and Lester continued to live in his home July of 2014, when he entered the Laurens Care Center. Lester was an active member of the Kiwanis Club where he served as secretary/treasurer for fifteen years and was also a member of the Masons. He also served on the Thresherman's board for six years and was the featured Parade Marshall in 2011. He was the treasurer of the local Food for Life program from 1985 - 2006. He served on the board of the Laurens Senior Pioneers for fourteen years, the last two years as the President. He was also an active member of the Laurens Methodist Church. Survivors include his daughters: Margaret (Tom) Hughes, Sisters, OR; Edith (Mike) Kirsch of Burnsville, MN; Wanda of Des Moines and Barbara Halligan of Laurens; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and sister, Juanita Posey of Sioux City. Lester was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ina, daughter, Linda, brothers, Roy and Jim and sister Goldie Denniston.
