Read More	DEATH CLAIMS OLD RESIDENT Mrs. John Featherston, Well Known Pioneer, Dies After Long Illness WAS A NATIVE OP IOWA Settled in Union Township Over Fifty Years Ago Mrs. Featherston aged 76, wife of John Featherston, pioneer resident of Plymouth county, died Thursday evening at her home, 700 Central Avenue SE, after an illness of long duration. Mrs. Featherston had lived here for the past fifty years and was widely known and esteemed in all circles of life. She was a native of Iowa and was a daughter of John and Lettie Croston, pioneers in the eastern part of the state. Mrs. Featherston, whose maiden name was, Lettie Croston, was born at Cascade, Iowa, April 2, 1867, where she grew to young womanhood and received her early education in Cascade and helped in the work of the home. She was united in marriage March 10, 1880, with John R. Featherston. They took up their home on a farm near Monticello following their marriage where they lived for two years. Mr. and Mrs. Featherston came to Le Mars in February, 1882, and settled on a farm in Union township where they lived many years, retiring from the farm to live in Le Mars twenty years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Featherston, while living in Union township, were active in community, civic and church work and are among the noble band of pioneers who have helped build up this country. Their lives of energy, self-denial and constructiveness stand out as beacon lights for younger generations. Helpfulness honesty and rectitude mark their path in life and have gained them the esteem and friendship of all who know them. Mrs. Featherston leaves to mourn her passing her husband, John Featherston and children, who are: Walter, of Le Mars; Mrs. W. R. Payne, of St. Joseph, Mich.; Fred Featherston, of Union township; Mrs. E. S. Kitterman, of Kinglsey; Elmer J. Featherston, of Chicago. There are eight grandchildren. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. L. A. Lehner of Brookings, S. D. and Mrs. Mamie Fagan and two brothers, James Croston, of Garretson, S. D. and Will Croston, of Cascade, Iowa. Funeral Held Saturday Mrs. Featherston was a life long member of the Methodist church and active in the work of the church and its kindred societies. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon in the First Methodist church, Rev. F. E. Burgees officiating and was largely attended by friends and old neighbors.
