LETTIE CLARK Funeral services for Mrs. Lettie Clark, an esteemed pioneer resident, passed away at about one o'clock a.m. Wednesday of last week, were held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon from the home, with the Rev. W.N. Baker of the Methodist church in charge. Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Fred Wells sang "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" and "Face to Face", with Mrs. Ralph Wade playing the accompaniment. The pallbearers were A.B. Canady, Fred Wells, B.B. Buihner, Ed Drilling, W.M. Dean and George Auen. Interment was in the Wall Lake cemetery by the side of the decedent's husband and two daughters. Mrs. Clark was 83 years, 3 months and 4 days of age at the time of her passing. Lettie A. Thornton was born on August 16, 1851, in Susquehanna, Pa., and spent her girlhood days there. When still a young woman, she moved with her parents to Clinton county, Iowa. There she met Fredrich H. Clark, to whom she was married in Cedar county on January 12, 1875. To their union were born three children - Mary, who passed away in 1896, at the age of 12 years; Abigail, who died in 1899 (leaving two small sons, Delbert and John Butler), and R. Grant, who survives. A foster daughter, Ida, passed away five years ago. The family came to Lake View forty years ago and has resided here since. Mr. Clark, who held the office of postmaster for a number of years, passed away on Christmas day 14 years ago. Mrs. Clark had been a member of the Methodist church since early childhood, and as long as the health of her family and herself permitted, took an active part in church and Sunday school A year or so ago her son, Grant, and family moved to her home in order to better look after her comfort and welfare in her last years. She leaves to mourn her departure her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. R.G. Clark, five grandchildren Lyle, Ruth and Alice Clark of Lake View, and Delbert Butler of Perkins, Okla., and John Butler of Robstown, Texas, also one great grandson, John Marion Butler.
