Salmons of Rozel Saturday, Nov. 16, to do what remained to be done, and to show, our respect to one who had moved among us for so many years, Mr. Levi Franklin Salmons. Mr. Salmons was born at Hamden, Ohio on the 16th day of October, 1841, and at the age of 24 was married to Miss Rose J. Brown of the same town. To this union were born eleven children one dying in infancy, ten remain to mourn the loss of the aged father. The wife and mother passed away some 24 years before. The deceased with his family, moved from Ohio to Illinois and lived near Alvin some 15 years, moving from there to this state in the year 1885, when he settled on his farm eight miles northwest of Burdett. The last few years he made his home with his son, Chas. A. Salmons at Rozel, where he was taken sick November 6th and died the 12th at 9:45 p.m., aged 71 years and 26 days. Mr. Salmons was honorable in his dealings with men, and was successful in business. He leaves a valuable estate. The father of a large family, he kept them together until they had grown to maturity. How much this meant is known only to those bereft of mother and wife. His departure calls to mind what has been borne by the early settlers of our country and how much we owe them for the benefits that are ours. A short service was held at the house and a service conducted by the writer at the M.E. church at Burdett. The serman was preached from 1 Sam.20:18, "Thou shalt be missed because thy seat will be empty." Rev. Irwin assisted, Undetaker Reiderer having charge. Among the floral tributes were a beautiful chrysanthemum pillow given by the children, and the boquets of carnations given by the Royal Neighbors of Rozel. The children, all present, were Mrs. Abbott, John, George, and Homer of Hanston; Mrs. Belle Franc, Cable Grove, Ill.; Thomas of Belpre; Mrs. Mary Kabler, Kingman; Mrs. Ella Arnold of Dodge City; Mrs. Nona Foreman of Eugene, Oregon, and Charles of Rozel. There remains also five brothers and three sisters: John and Mrs. Minnie Willians of Kingman; Silas of Ohio; James of Larned; Mrs. James Hamlin of Oklahoma; William, Arthur, and Miss Katie of Burdett. The bereft have the sincere sympathy of many friends.
