Read More	Anamosa Eureka (Iowa) Thursday - April 5, 1934 L.L. Wells Buried Levi Larue Wells, son of Levi and Mary Ann Wells, was born in Pennsylvania, November 7, 1861. He departed this life March 30, 1934 at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 24 days, after a lingering illness of more than four years, following an operation. The years of suffering were spent in the home of his daughter, Sadie Shaffer on a farm near Anamosa, where loving hands with untiring energy, and all the help medical aid could give was given him, but his trouble was of such a nature that medical aid could not stay it, and at last his prayers for deliverance from his awful suffering were granted and he fell asleep. Mr. Wells was a kind husband and loving father. The last of a family of five children, two brothers and two sisters having preceded him in death. At the age of four years with his parents and an older brother he came to Iowa, where he has since resided. the long journey from Pennsylvania was made in a covered wagon drawn by oxen. They settled on a prairie farm in Madison township, Jones county, where he grew to robust, manhood sharing the toil and hardships of pioneer life, gaining such education as the country schools of those days had to offer. In 1975 he was united in marriage to Susan Axline Cooper. To this union ten children were born. One little girl died at the age of one year and a son at the age of twenty-two met accidental death by electricity. In 1917 his wife died. After her death he spent much time in the homes of his children where he was always welcome. His affectionate nature made him a favorite among all children, and of whom he was very fond. The children left to mourn this kind, indulgent father, are Mrs. Mary Townsend, Mrs. Sadie Shaffer, Charley, Frank and Willie of Anamosa; Elmer of Prairieburg; Leslie of Marion; Edward of Antioch, California; also 35 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. Mr. Wells was a strong man who thought no effort too great, no toil too hard to be used in caring for his family, and gladly labored for their comfort. He loved his Bible and its teaching and in the last hours of life found comfort in the Scriptures, asking those who stood around his bed to sing, and though suffering greatly, seemed soothed and calmed when a trembling voice sang "Jesus Lover of My Soul" and "Sitting at the Feet of Jesus", and thus another pioneer has gone down the valley. Funeral services were conducted from the home of Mrs. Sadie Shaffer and the Methodist church of Anamosa on Sunday afternoon, April 1st, at 2:00. Burial was made at the Madison Village Cemetery, 10 miles east of Anamosa. Rev. Harry D. Green was in charge of the observances.
