Des Moines, June 11,—Levi Marsh, one of the pioneers of Iowa, died at the home of his son, F.L. Marsh, at Irving, Iowa, aged 93 years. Mrs. Marsh came to Iowa in 1853 and settled in Tama county. He was one of the first men to come from the east and made his home in the state of Iowa, which at that time was in its infancy. He is survived by three sons and seven grandchildren. The funeral services will be held at the home of F.J.Marsh at Irving today and the interment will take place at Irving. This is the same article that was printed in the Des Moines, Register June 10, 1910. From History of Tama County, Iowa (Volume 2) ELMON F. MARSH can claim the honor of being a son of son of the earliest and most influential of the early pioneers of Tama county, his father, Levi Marsh, having located within its borders in 1853. It was Levi Marsh who built the first frame building in Tama county and he was identified with its commercial and public interests all his life. Born July 2, 1864, in the town of Irving, Elmon F. Marsh is one of four children born to Levi and Emma E. (Royce) Marsh. The father was a native of Massachusetts and the mother of New York. She died in 1896, but the father is still living, now ninety-two years of age, and he makes his home with his son Elmon. The other son, Frank L., also resides in Salt Creek township. After receiving his education in the district schools, Elmon F. Marsh chose agriculture as a vocation, and he is now one of the leading and influential farmers of Salt Creek township, his homestead being located in section 1. He owns altogether one hundred and fifty and a half acres, his land being located in Tama and Benton counties. In local politics, Mr. Marsh votes for the man whom he regards as best fitted for the office.
