Description	:	Levi Eichelberger, one of the most widely known residents of Muscatine county, suddenly expired at the home of his son, Elmer E. Eichelberger, in Seventy-Six township last evening at 10:45 o'clock, the cause being apoplexy. Mr. Eichelberger, since the death of his wife, has made his home with his son, Elmer, who lives on the old homestead and has also spent much time with his other children. A few days since he visited at the home of his daughter, Mr. William Lake, who lives north of of the city. Mrs. Lake last evening started for Boulder, Colorado, where she had intended visiting, but received a telegram announcing the death of her father on the way and returned on the Rock Island from Washington, Iowa. Being among the early settlers of the county, Mr. Eichelberger was well acquainted and had the respect of all who knew him. Both in business and social affairs he was agreeable and honorable. He possessed the strong characteristics of the pioneer and while traveling the path of industry and self sacrifice, which it naturally takes to provide for a large family, had acquired the reputation of being endowed with true manliness. Although he was 84 years old, he was interested in the affairs of the day and had been active for one of his age. The ten children who survive and their places of residence are here given: Clarence Eichelberger and Mrs. Chester Fullmer, Boulder, Colorado; Frank Eichelberger, Omaha; Winfield Eichelberger, South Dakota; Mrs. LaVague Cecil, Conesville, Iowa; Elmer E. on the home place in Seventy-six township; Mrs. Henry Hoffmeyer, Letts, Iowa; Mrs. William Hoffmeyer, Sioux City, Iowa; Mrs. James Watts, Montpelier, Iowa; and Mrs. William Lake of Lake Township. Over twenty grandchildren also survive. The funeral arrangements have not yet been completed as it is expected that several of the children who reside in other places will come home. Rootsweb.ancestry.com Mr. Eichelberger is a son of Levi and Mary ( Ebersole ) Eichelberger, both of whom were born in Pennsylvania. The father came to Muscatine county, Iowa, in 1844, but after several years returned to Pennsylvania. However he was again attracted west and early in the ' 50s he entered land in Muscatine county, and became one of its energetic farmers. He was called away July 10, 1906, his beloved wife having been summoned from earthly scenes August 24, 1895. They were laid to rest in Letts cemetery. There were twelve children in their family, ten of whom are now living: Galena, who became the wife of Isaiah IDLE and departed this life November 4, 1897; Clay, now living at Boulder, Colorado; Henrietta, the wife of L. M. CECIL, of Muscatine county; Scott, deceased; Frank, of South Dakota; Priscilla, the wife of W.F. HOFFMEYER of Sioux City, Iowa; Irene, now Mrs. William LAKE, of Lake township, Muscatine county; Winfield, of South Dakota; Alvira, the wife of J. C.
