Lew Gruver was born to William J and Mary Hunsburger Gruver in Elgin on April 14, 1885. He died February 13, at the age of 81 years and 10 months. Read More	Funeral Services for Lew Gruver, who died Monday, February 13, were held Thursday at St. Paul Methodist Church with burial in Elgin Cemetery. Lew Gruver was born to William J and Mary Hunsburger Gruver in Elgin on April 14, 1885. He died February 13, at the age of 81 years and 10 months. He was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Shaw October 9, 1907 at St. Joseph Missouri. They made their home there until 1912 when they returned to Elgin. Eight children were born to this union. He started work with the Rock Island Railroad in 1903, where he spent his entire working career, with the expectation of three years spent on a farm south of Elgin. He retired in 1949 because of poor health. He was educated in the Elgin Public Schools and was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. He leaves one sister Anna, Mr. William Kerr of Elgin, two daughters Mrs. Lillie Baldwin of Iowa City, Mrs. John Barnhouse of Clermont; three sons William of Grundy Center, Robert of Waterloo, Elmer of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, 13 grandchildren, nephews, nieces, hosts of friends, and 19 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by Alta Adeline, who died in infancy, and Anna, Mary, his wife, his parents, three sisters (Alma) Mrs. Fred Mason, (Libby) Mrs. Fred Le Clair, (Alta) Mrs. Charles Klingman; three brothers Burt, Charles, John and two grandsons.
