Andrew is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Cass County, Nebraska. The 34th Iowa Infantry mustered at Burlington, Iowa. Battles included Chickasaw Bayou, Ark Dec 1862, assault and capture of Ft Hindman, Arkansas Post, Jan 1863, Siege of Vicksburg Jun – Jul 1863. The unit was launched on several expeditions which included Yazoo City, Carrollton, LA, Morganza through swamps of Atchafalaya , Rio Grande, TX, Mustang Island, Ft Esperanza, Matagorda Island, Aug 63 – Apr 64. Construction of dam at Alexandria Apr-May 64. Capture of Ft Morgan Aug 1864. The 34th was so decimated by disease ( Only about 400 left of 1081 enlisted) that it was consolidated with the 38th Iowa and renamed the 34th Consolidated Battalion. Moved to Pensacola, FL via New Orleans Jan-Mar 65. Parcipated in the siege and capture of Ft Blakely ,AL. Duty at Mobile and Selma AL till May 65. Duty at Galveston and Houston, TX until muster out.
