Read More	Lewis Badger Halsey was born to George Clinton Halsey and Mary Belle (Badger) Halsey on July 17, 1924, near Central City, and passed away Sept. 6, 2002 at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva at the age of 78 years, one month and 19 days. He was the only child in the family. Badger lived on the Badger Homestead in West Blue Township, and graduated from eighth grade at District No. 4 and then attended and graduated from McCool Junction High School. After graduation, Badger attended York College and then the University of Nebraska. He then returned home where he farmed the family homestead until his retirement. Badger was married to Helen Joan Finley of Schuyler, on April 23, 1957, and to them a daughter, Mary Louise, was born. Throughout his life, Badger was most active in the Masonic Lodge. He was initiated into the mysteries of Freemasonry in Fairmont Lodge No. 48 in Fairmont on May 25, 1957, passed to the degree of a Fellowcraft Mason August 20, 1957, and raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason on Oct. 15, 1957. In the 38 years he was a member of Fairmont Lodge, he served as an officer of the Lodge 30 different times. He had the honor of serving as Master of Fairmont Lodge in 1962, 1977, 1984, 1989, 1990 and 1996. He joined Geneva Lodge No. 79 in Geneva by affiliation on May 14, 1998 when Fairmont Lodge consolidated with Geneva Lodge. He was also a dual member with York Lodge No 56 in York. He was a Certified Mason in the three degrees of Masonry for over 30 years. Brother Halsey, in 1964, joined the Solomon Chapter No. 33 of Royal Arch Masons; Naomi Council No. 20 of Cryptic Masons, and Joppa Commandery No. 17. He served these York Rite bodies as High Priest in 1978, Illustrious Master in 1981 and Commander in 1968. He was a member of the Sir Galahad Priory No. 7 Knights of York Cross of Honor, Nebraska York Rite College No. 138, Order of High Priesthood, Order of Silver Trowel, Past Thrice Illustrious Master, Past Commanders Association. Other Masonic Bodies to which Badger belonged to were: Lincoln Valley Scottish Rite Southern Jurisdiction Thirty Second Degree, a Noble of the Mystic Shrine in the Sesostris Temple Lincoln, Meridian Shrine Club and Meridian Clowns of York, Grand Representative to the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Kentucky, Honorary Member in Kentucky of the High Priests, Thrice Illustrious Master, Order of the Silver Trowel, Past Commanders, Sovereign Preceptors and Kentucky Knights of York Cross of Honor, Past Worthy Patron of Mount Moriah Chapter Order of Eastern Star No. 38 Fairmont, Nebraska, Past Worthy Patron and member of Geneva Chapter Order of Eastern Star No. 180 Geneva member of Grace Chapter Order of Eastern Star No. 87 in York. Badger was preceded in death by his father, George Clinton Halsey and his mother, Mary (Badger) Halsey. He is survived by his wife, Helen Halsey of Fairmont; a daughter, Mary Louise and husband, Daniel Vrana of Gilbert, Ariz., and by two grandchildren, Kel and Tracy Vrana. Funeral services were conducted from the Farmer & Son Funeral Home, Geneva, on Friday, Sept. 13, with Rev. Ralph Ford officiating. Casket bearers were Emmett Scott, Robert Rhodes, Fred Wyant, Earl Bleach, Rick Saum and Brad Stephens. Masonic graveside services were conducted by the Geneva Masonic Lodge No. 79.
