Read More	Atlantic News Telegraph December 1, 1925 Page 2 "LEW" GROVES DEAD Tho his host of friends throughout this county and its surrounding territory the news of the death of Lewis Joshua Groves at his home in Cumberland, after a very painful illness, came as a personal loss. The deceased was one of the pioneers of this section and one of its most successful farmers and feeders, and was at all times active in his interest in the many problems confronting the farmers. He owns a farm northwest of Cumberland, but some years ago concluded to move to Cumberland and end his days there free from the worries of looking after his acres and interests. He looked forward to a life of ease and contentment, but, as is so often the case, a fatal disease fastened upon him and the end came Saturday night last. For almost fifty years the writer enjoyed the personal friendship of "Lew" Groves. Through the storm and stress of the years his friendship was "like the shadow of rock in a weary land." It never faltered and though the years created differences of opinion it was always courteous and kindly. "Lew" Groves was a good citizen and a loving father and husband. He was diligent in his business and successful. He helped to lay the foundation of this section and he did his work well. He was loved best by those who knew him best. He had many friends in Atlantic who will look in vain for his infrequent comings. All those and hosts of others will give of their unbounded sympathy to the widow and children who survive and will always miss him. The roll call shows fewer and fewer of those who hewed this matchless state out of wilderness and made it bloom and blossom like the rose. Gradually they are passing into the shadows. The tables erected to their memory will declare that they did their work well and earned their eternal reward. May the spirit of "Lew" Groves and of all others who have passed on in perfect peace.
