OBITUARY: "The Franklin Press," Franklin, North Carolina, January 28, 1998 Mr. Higdon Lewis Lefferts Higdon, 90, of Franklin, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, in an Asheville nursing home. A native of Macon County, he was the son of the late Thomas Bragg Higdon and Lula Shephard Higdon. He worked for many years for Franklin Hardware Store, and retired from Belden. He was an active member of the Holly Springs Baptist Church where he served on the building committee during the construction of the new church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Ila Elliott Higdon, who died in 1993. He is survived by a son; Milton Higdon of Forest City; a daughter, Marilyn Myers of Asheville; two brothers, Paul Higdon of North Brookfield, Mass., and Grayson Higdon of Franklin; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 24, at Holly Springs Baptist Church. Rev. Lewis Smith, Rev. Eddie Trull and Rev. Cecil Frady officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Don Deagle, Harold Corbin, Denton Higdon, Tom Tomlin, Bill Holcomb and Johnnie Hyatt. Memorials may be made to the Holly Springs Baptist Church Building Fund. Macon Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
