Description	:	Lewis Leonard was born October 11, 1924, in rural Castana, Iowa to Walter and Anna (Anderson) Hadden. He grew up in the rural area and graduated from Castana High School in 1942. He joined the army in 1945 and became a member of the Army Signal Corp. He worked as a code clerk at the General Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan under General McArthur. Lewis and Jean Carlson were united in marriage on January 23, 1949, in the home of Jean's parents, Edwin and Goldie Carlson of Sloan, IA. In January, the couple celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. The couple farmed in the Soldier area until retirement in 1989. Lewis believed that farming, despite its hardships and disappointments, was one of the most honest ways a man could spend his days on earth. In 2000, the couple moved to Onawa, IA where he worked several years for Rush Family Care Service and Stangel Pharmacy. In 2013, they moved to an independent living apartment in Trinity Village in Papillion, NE. In 2015, they moved to an assistant living apartment in Trinity Village. Lewis was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church where he held several offices. He was a member of American Legion Post #502 for 70 years. He was active in the community and served on many boards. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Farm Bureau, REC, the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS), and the Monona County Landfill Agency. Lewis' beloved wife and family were very important to him. He enjoyed playing cards with family, relatives, and friends. He also enjoyed playing Mexican Train dominoes with friends and grandson.
