He had been in failing health for the past two or three years and during the past winter had been quite feeble at times and was bedfast for several days a week or so prior to his death. He seemed to improve, however, and spent last Thursday afternoon down town attending to business matters and in the evening walked to the home of his daughter, Mrs. S.Q. French. Upon retiring for the night he announced that he felt better than for some time past. He evidently suffered a stroke during the night, however, for Friday morning he was found in his bed in an unconscious condition and passed away shortly after. Funeral services were held at the Associated church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, conducted by his pastor, Rev. R.J. Cornell. Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery. Members of the Masonic order, with which he had long been affiliated, attended the funeral service in a body and the Masonic burial service was used at the grave with T.J. Reeves of Orange City giving the ritualistic service. The funeral was attended by hundreds of sorrowing relatives and friends who gathered to pay a last sad tribute to the memory of the deceased. Lewis Lodvic Younie, son of Lewis and Janie Younie, was born Nov. 20, 1855, near Monteal, Canada, and passed away in Hawarden Feb. 19, 1932, at the age of 76 years, 2 months and 29 days. His parents moved to Delaware county, Iowa, in 1861 and he grew to young manhood there. In 1877 he went to Sac county, Iowa, where he worked on a farm for about five years. In 1882 he came to Sioux county and located on a farm, two miles north of Hawarden, and has been a continuous resident of this community ever since. He was united in marriage with Nellie V. White at Peterson, Iowa, on Dec. 15, 1884, and they immediately moved to the farm which Mr. Younie had previously acquired in Buncombe township. Mrs. Younie survives him. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Younie but one daughter, Blanche, died in infancy. The children who are left to mourn a kind and affectionate father are Mrs. Maude Gardner of Mitchell, S.D.; Richard H. Younie, Mrs. Nellie V. French, Clifford L. Younie and Mrs. Lola Witt, all of Hawarden and Raymond Younie of Gann Valley, S.D. Mr. Younie was one of a family of ten children, eight of whom survive him. He leaves six brother, John of Odebolt, Iowa; William of Schaller, Iowa; David of Mitchell, S.D.; and James, Alex. and Richard W. of Hawarden, and two sisters, Mrs. Anne Churchyard of Greenacres, Wash., and Mrs. Jennete Bruce of Garber, Okla. One sister, Mrs. Ellen Abbey, passed away a number of years ago. For more than forty years Mr. Younie served as treasurer of the Buncombe township school district, which office he still held at the time of his death. He had been a long time member of the Masonic lodge, the Consistory and the Shrine. Since 1903 he had been a member of the Congregational church of this city and was a generous contributor toward the building fund of the new church building erected several years ago. Although his life work was that of farming in which he achieved a large measure of success he found time for various other business activities. He as long interested in the banking business in Hawarden and for many years served as vice president of the Hawarden State Bank. He also gave assistance to many in this community whose circumstances were such at times that they were unable to obtain accommodations at the banks. In this activity he frequently displayed a faith in his fellow man which attracted to him numberless friends. He will be sorely missed in this community and many outside the family circle will sincerely mourn his passing. Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Younie and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Younie and daughter Mildred of Schaller, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Younie and Mr. and Mrs. A.M.
