Description	:	Lewis Otto “Lew” Ulrich, age 90, passed away in Crescent City, CA, on July 20, 2006. Lew was born on December 17, 1915, in Smith River, CA, to Lester and Martha Ulrich. He resided his entire life in the Smith River Valley. Lew began his working life at the Smith River Creamery as a butter maker, followed by a number of years as an Inspector at the Agricultural Inspection Station at the State line. Read More	Lewis Otto “Lew” Ulrich, age 90, passed away in Crescent City, CA, on July 20, 2006. Lew was born on December 17, 1915, in Smith River, CA, to Lester and Martha Ulrich. He resided his entire life in the Smith River Valley. Lew began his working life at the Smith River Creamery as a butter maker, followed by a number of years as an Inspector at the Agricultural Inspection Station at the State line. He then joined his father in the operation of the Ulrich Family dairy, which he continued until his retirement. Lew served as a Director on the Del Norte County Fair board for many years and a term as president. Lew’s participation in the formation of the Smith River District Cemetery, serving as president of the Board and ultimately the renovation of the cemetery was done with great pride and sense of accomplishment. As an avid fisherman and hunter, he enjoyed many successful adventures with his sons and friends. He was a longtime member of the Crescent Lodge #45 F&AM. Lewis was married for 63 years to Elizabeth “Terry” Ulrich who preceded him in death in 2002. Lewis is survived by: companion, Catherine Burns of Smith River, CA; sons and daughter-in-law, Carl Ulrich and wife Leanna of Arcata, CA, Jack Ulrich of Smith River, CA; sister, Marie Broman of Napa, CA; grandchildren, Kristina Ulrich-Hole of Rocklin, CA, Karla Ulrich of Eureka, CA, Kellie Johnston of Longview, WA, Brandi Palombella of Bartlett, TN; great grandchildren, Cody Johnston of Longview, WA, Madeleine and Katherine Hole of Rocklin, CA, Sarah and Anne Palombella of Bartlett, TN. Memorial services will be held at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel on Thursday, July 27th at 1:00 P.M. Private interment will take place at the Smith River District Cemetery in Smith River, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City, CA.
