While he had liked farming, he found driving the school bus was most enjoyable. He loved children and being surrounded with them nearly every day was wonderful. He was like a grandpa to the bunch of youngsters. "He was not just a gentleman, but he was a gentle man," friends and relatives alike said of him. His love for children continued after he retired and one of his chief hobbies was making dollhouses. His wife estimated he must have more than 40 of them and they went as gifts to his children and others, some he sold. Alpha, enchanted by his work, asked if she could have one to keep for herself and he gave her a choice to choose the one she wanted. Lewis' health continued to fail and after a recent hospitalization, he entered the Golden LivingCenter in Mobridge for rehabilitation. He had been there for three days when he died Monday, Dec. 18, 2006, at the center at the age of 90. He was born March 18, 1916, to Charles and Thora (Gunderson) Prasek on the family farm south of Pollock. When he was 5, the family moved to a farm seven miles southwest of Mound City, where he grew up and attended the rural Knudson School. He farmed with his father and brothers until his marriage. Lewis and Alpha Anderson had attended the same church and, later, when she was teaching at a rural country school, Lewis' brother was one of her students. It was while she was teaching that she began going with Lewis. They were married May 23, 1941, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge. For the next 36 years they made their home on a farm five miles southwest of Mound City where they had cattle, hogs and grain farmed. Lewis had been baptized at Kvernes and confirmed at Norway Lutheran Church where he remained a member until his death. He served several offices in the church, and was also president of the Auburn School Board for many years, and a 4-H club and project leader. Always, he and Alpha, his wife for 65 years, worked together, whether in the field, caring for the cattle, or in the house where he helped her with everything from housework to reading to their children. "Of course there were times we had disagreements," Alpha recalls, "but we always stayed and worked together happily." After turning their farm over to their son Steve, they enjoyed their move to Selby where they built a new home and took part in a community that welcomed them. Lewis was on the site council for the Selby Nutrition Program. He leaves his wife Alpha of Selby; two sons and their wives, Ronald and Becky Prasek of Minneapolis, Minn., and Steven and Nancy Prasek of rural Mound City; five grandchildren, Katherine (Ryan) Earhart, Sarah, Nathan, Matthew (Corrie) Prasek and Megan (Chris) Lipp; two step-grandchildren, Gretchen and Mark (Jerri) Wagner and two great-grandchildren, Elijah and Ezra; a former daughter-in-law, Virginia Prasek of St. Paul, Minn.; one sister, Dorothy Peterson of Tustin, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. Three brothers, Oscar, Arthur and Albert, and one sister, Mabel, preceded him in death. Lewis had told his family he wanted a simple service. "Don't fuss," he told them. They tried to follow his wishes when his funeral was held Friday, Dec. 22, at his church, Norway Lutheran Church north of Glenham. The Rev. Dennis Fonkert officiated, assisted by Lewis' son Ron and grandson Matthew, who are both pastors. Granddaughter Sarah read a poem. Casketbearers were Oscar Prasek, Gary Prasek, Ryan Earhart, Matthew Prasek, Chris Lipp, Nathan Prasek and Charles Aldentaler.
