Died at her home in Colorado Springs, April 13, Lida Lamb-Russell, wife of Wm. Russell. Mrs. Russell was widely acquainted in Butler count. Her father, two brothers, Dr. W.M. Lamb now of Washington state and H.D. Lamb of Anthony, Della Lamb deceased, and her sister, Mrs. Alvah Shelden were among the earliest pioneers at Douglass and bore their share of early day hardship and deprivation. She resided in El Dorado for several years, finally in 1888 going to Colorado, believed to be consumptive. Her health was recovered and she was married to Wm. Russell. Her husband and a daughter survive her and mourn the loving and loyal wife and mother. Mrs. Russel was of most kindly, generous and lovable nature and disposition. She was a home-maker, a home lover. In recent years her health again failed and she has suffered torture for at least two years past but bore her cross with fortitude that was most remarkable; yet she longed for death to release her from this life and she was confident of the eternal life with its compensations, its endless joys, unending freedom and perpetual spiritual progression. Her sister Mrs. Shelden left on the Santa Fe via Winfield last night, for Colorado Springs where she arrived at 3:30 Friday. (transcribed by Judy Mayfield)
