Aletha was born on August 1, 1921 on the family farm north of Orleans in Harlan County, Nebraska, the second of four children born to LaSalle Harold and Martena Julianna (Christensen) Whitehead. Aletha was born on August 1, 1921 on the family farm north of Orleans in Harlan County, Nebraska, the second of four children born to LaSalle Harold and Martena Julianna (Christensen) Whitehead. Aletha received her primary education from District #44 in Harlan County, Nebraska and then graduated from Mascot (NE.) High School. Aletha then pursued higher education for her pre-nursing credentials from The University of Nebraska at Kearney and then graduated from Mary Lanning School of Nursing, Hastings, Nebraska in 1943. Following her education, she volunteered with the United States Army Nursing Corps and later served in an official capacity when she was inducted on April 21, 1944 and served her country in Central Europe during World War II as an Army nurse until her honorable discharge on March 15, 1946 with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Following her service, Aletha worked as a registered nurse at The Brewster Clinic and Hospital, Holdrege, Nebraska. On December 20, 1947 she was united in marriage to Carl John Victor Freburg at the Westmark Evangelical Free Church, Phelps County, Nebraska parsonage and to this union four children were born: Diane, Mark, Timothy and Dann. They made their home in Holdrege, Nebraska, in the Westmark Community and in Denver, Colorado before moving to the farm west of Loomis, Nebraska in 1963. In February of 1996, Aletha and Carl moved into Holdrege, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl on May 26, 2001. Aletha was a member of the Evangelical Free Church, Loomis, Nebraska where she served in many capacities including: W.M.S. (Women's Missionary Society), served on the church board, taught Sunday school, involved in bible study, and active with Pioneer Girls. She was also a member of the American Legion Post #338, Loomis, Nebraska the American Legion Auxiliary and joined the George R. Mitchell Post #1365 of the V.F.W. in 1980. She also volunteered with the Blood Mobile for many years and enjoyed her activity with the Mary Lanning Nursing Alumni Association. Aletha loved attending her children's and grandchildren's activities as they were growing up. Aletha was preceded in death by: parents; husband, Carl J. V. Freburg; son, Timothy John Freburg at birth; brother, Harold Whitehead and his wife, LaVeva; sister, Mildred Meier and her husband, Victor; brother-in-law, Frank Hoxmeier; and sisters-in-law: Lucille Peterson and her husband, John, Vernie McKee and her husband, J.R., Ruby Houchens and her husband, Charles, and Ruth Johnson and her husband, Carl. Aletha leaves to mourn her passing: daughter, Diane Jones and her husband, Robert of Omaha, Nebraska; sons: Mark Freburg and his wife, Julie of Holdrege, Nebraska and Dann Freburg and his wife, Patty of Holdrege, Nebraska; grandchildren: Todd and Carlyn Jones of Omaha, Nebraska, Tim Freburg of Lincoln, Nebraska and Alex Freburg of Holdrege, Nebraska; sister, Margery Hoxmeier of Orleans, Nebraska and a host of relatives and friends.
