Description	:	"John Ewing Albaugh was the son of R.D. Albaugh and Mabel Gilmore Albaugh. John had a brother named Redman G. Albaugh. John was born in Linn County, IA, on Sept. 21, 1915, and later moved to Winner where he attended school. He was active in sports at Winner High School. He loved playing football. John attended South Dakota State College and graduated in 1940. John graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil engineering, and he was never married. John loved riding motorcycles and toured the country via cycle with friends. John... Read More	"John Ewing Albaugh was the son of R.D. Albaugh and Mabel Gilmore Albaugh. John had a brother named Redman G. Albaugh. John was born in Linn County, IA, on Sept. 21, 1915, and later moved to Winner where he attended school. He was active in sports at Winner High School. He loved playing football. John attended South Dakota State College and graduated in 1940. John graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil engineering, and he was never married. John loved riding motorcycles and toured the country via cycle with friends. John Albaugh enlisted with flying cadets in July of 1940. 2nd Lt. Albaugh underwent basic training in Santa Maria, California. Lt. Albaugh also was at Kelly Field in Texas for additional training. Lt. Albaugh was stationed in Savannah, Georgia, where his parents visited him during the holidays. Later, Lt. Albaugh was stationed in Charters Towers Airbase in Queensland, Australia. John enjoyed flying the A-20 bombers. On May 9, 1942, in Queensland, Australia, 2nd Lt. Albaugh died in a plane crash during practice flights. Lt. Albaugh was buried with full military honors in Charters Towers Airbase Cemetery in Queensland, Australia. The telegram notifying of his death came on Mother's Day, 39 days later. Lt. Albaugh's final resting place became Cedar Memorial Park, Cedar Rapids, IA, on March 30, 1948. He was survived by his mother, father, and his brother—all who lived in Winner at the time, but who are now all deceased. 2nd Lt.
