| Description | : | John joined the Des Moines Police Department June 28,1928 and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant October 1, 1933. He promoted to Lieutenant May 16, 1939 and retired August 1,1959. His badge was 318. John was the last living policeman to retire under the old 410 pension plan. Lieutenant McClelland received $258 per month upon his retirement in 1959. Thirty-six years later, his retirement check had increased 436 percent to $1,125 per month. |
