Description	:	Max was a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the World War 2 . Max was born in Winnipeg but spent his time growing up in Govan Saskatchewan . Max enlisted in 1940 in the R.C.A.F as a flight instructor until 1943 He then went overseas he flew 27 missions as pilot officer on a Lancaster Bomber . Four months before Max was to be sent overseas Gladys & he were married at Barnwell Alberta . Gladys lived in Calgary Alberta all the time that Max was away in the war . He flew a bomber overseas... Four months before Max was to be sent overseas Gladys & he were married at Barnwell Alberta . Gladys lived in Calgary Alberta all the time that Max was away in the war . He flew a bomber overseas & was gone for two years during the war doing his job well & stayed overseas until the war ended . When the war ended they moved to Barnwell Alberta . There next move was to Winnipeg Manitoba for 4 months where Max trained to be a pilot with Trans Canada Air Lines now known as Air Canada . Max's career as a pilot started in Lethbridge Alberta . They lived there for two years when Max was transferred to Calgary Alberta where they bought there first home . His next transfer was to Montreal Quebec where they lived for 6 more years . One last transfer was back to Calgary where they stayed for 10 years . Max retired from the airline there in Calgary . They made there last move to the coast Vancouver B.C. where thay stayed until max passed away in 1995 . Max is the son of Harry Wentworth Davidson & Vesta Belle (Whitley) Davidson. ___________________________________________ My cousin Scott named his son Max Heber Anderson after Uncle Max & my grandfather Heber Anderson two the the greatest men he ever new in his life . Davidson F/L Max Whitley (C23562)-Distinguished flying cross -No 420 squadron award effective 5 July 1945 as per London Gazette dated 17 July 1945 & AFRO 1558/45 dated 5 Oct 1945 . Born in Winnipeg Manitoba 1919 home in Barnwell Alberta . Mechanic / clerk Enlisted in Regina Saskatchewan 31 Oct 1940 . Commissioned 1942 no citation other than "in recognition of gallantry & devotion to duty in the execution of the air operation against the enemy " . See DHist file 181.009 D.1746 (PAC PG 24 Vol 20608) recommendation made 15 March 1945 at which time he has flown 25 sorties (168 hours 50 minutes). Flight Lieutenant Davidson has completed many sorties against heavily defended & deeply penetrated targets & has at all times displayed a high degree of skill & courage in pressing home his attacks . This officer keenness & devotion to duty has set a fine example at all . His resolute work has played a good part in the success of the squadron .
