He was 83 years old.Paul was born February 23, 1932 in Abilene, the son of Paul Xavier and Mary (Rauch) Whitehair. On August 8, 1959 he married JoAnne Curran. She survives of the home. Read More	VETERAN--U.S. ARMY, INFANTRY ****** Paul Loren, “Johnny”, Whitehair, farmer-stockman, former county commissioner and insurance agent, passed away on Monday, August 10 at Abilene Memorial Hospital, Abilene, Kansas. He was 83 years old.Paul was born February 23, 1932 in Abilene, the son of Paul Xavier and Mary (Rauch) Whitehair. On August 8, 1959 he married JoAnne Curran. She survives of the home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mary, and siblings, Norman, Donald, Patricia, Mary Virginia and Richard.Paul received a Bachelor of Science in Milling Administration from Kansas State University in 1955. He proudly served his country as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army, Infantry from 1955-1957. He began his professional career as an assistant production manager with ADM, Larabee Mills in Kansas City, Missouri. He also held positions of territory manager and consulting engineer with J.B. Ehrsam Company, Continental Engineering and Kansas Sales Service, Hutchison, Kansas. Paul was a project engineer with Pratt Industrial Development with the primary project being completion of a 30,000 head feed lot in Pratt. He returned to Abilene in 1962 to become a farmer-stockman with Whitehair Brothers, an operation he co-owned and operated with his brother, Richard J. Whitehair from 1962-1990. Upon his retirement from farming, Paul began his crop adjusting career with Rain/ Hail Company from 1993-1997 and continued with Great American Insurance, Lawrence, Kansas from 1997 to present.Paul was a life-long member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus and a former BPOE member. He was active in farming organizations including the American Agriculture Movement, Dickinson County Farmers Union, Abilene Co-op Association and the Dickinson County Farm Bureau. He served on the Dickinson County Commission from 1996-2004 and was also an agricultural advisor to US Representative Martha Keyes and Jim Jeffries. In later life, Paul developed a love of flying and skydiving. He completed two tandem jumps and was in the process of learning to pilot the plane as well. He had many wonderful days with members of the Kansas State University skydiving club.He is survived by his wife of 56 years, JoAnne, Abilene, Kansas; two sons, Paul R., Abilene, and Jon G.(Karen), Fairfield, California; three daughters, Jana E. (Greg) Ultzsch, Wichita, Kansas, Lori A. (J.D.) Erskin, Johnson City, Kansas, and Lisa M. (Draque) Whitehair-Carver, Ozawkie, Kansas; fourteen grandchildren – Kaleb, Reilly, Lindsey, Kasey, Isabel, Alex, Kyle, Aidan, Garrett (Sarah), Ryan (Tanya), Dalton, Brady, Maggie and Brett.A rosary and visitation will be Wednesday, August 12 at 6:00 p.m. at Martin Becker Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene. Mass of Christian Burial will be St. Andrew’s Catholic Church on Thursday, August 13 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside services will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Abilene. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions in Paul’s name to St. Andrew’s Catholic School, Abilene, Kansas. Memorial contributions may left in care of Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW 3rd, Abilene, Kansas 67410.
