The World Family Tree file lists Robert's birth date as May 29, 1754, in Dawsonville, Montgomery County, MD. His death date from these records is correct. This information needs to be confirmed. He served in the military in 1776. "Robert Doyne wished to join the Army [during the Revolutionary War] but was turned down because he was too short. In consequence, this enterprising young man heightened the heels of his boots, reapplied, and was accepted. He served in the Maryland Line under General John Eager Howard during the battles of Long Island and Cowpens. He was severely wounded at the battle of Germantown in Pennsylvania. Thomas Dawson and all 3 of his sons subscribed to the Oath of Fidelity in 1778." He was a private in the Third Company, Upper Battalion of the Maryland Militia in 1777, along with his brother, Nicholas. He owned Mother's Delight, Addition to Mother's Delight and Fair Prospect. before 1824 in , Montgomery, MD. "Mother's Delight", was 110 acres, "Addition to Mother's Delight", was 50 acres and "Fair Prospect" was 16 acres.. From an unidentified source: "It is tradition that [Robert] built the stone house across from the present Lewis Allnutt home for his second wife. Tradition says that it was lived in only a short time, if ever, by this couple and was alowed [sic] to stand deserted from this time on. It is sort of a mystery house and the Allnutt's do not tell the story. By 1865, the property was owned by George Washington Dawson, one of Robert Doyne Dawson's 14 children. ..." He died on 13 Aug 1824 in Montgomery, MD. He was buried in Monocacy Cemetery, Montgomery, MD. Robert is named in his father, Thomas Dawson's, will, proved 2 October 1800.    He built a home for himself and his second wife, but never lived in it. The home, made of reddish-brown native stone, was almost 4,000 square feet, and was similar to many homes in the area built by wealthy planters. It had two main floors, and an attic and basement. The basement held the kitchen and a cellar; the attic two bedrooms. The main floor contained the dining room and living room, and the second floor had two bedrooms. Each end of the house had two fireplaces, which opened to the living room, kitchen and second floor bedrooms. The home also had a diary building and a spring, which had been covered by a small building.   It isn't clear why Robert and his new wife did not move into the home. It remained vacant after construction. One hundred thirty years later, during the Great Depression, it was the subject of a Works Project. It was photographed, and detailed drawings made of the structure, including the windows, doors, and railings. These drawings and photographs can be found in the Library of Congress. The structure has since collapsed. He was married to Sarah Newton Chiswell on 25 Oct 1781 in Montgomery, MD."
