The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at Stevens Memorial Chapel, 607 28th St., Ames. Lila was born on Feb. 7, 1918, on the family farm near Albion, Neb., the daughter of Walter and Mabel Sallach Reynoldson. She graduated from Albion High School in 1936 as the top student in the county and attended school at Wayne State College, where she trained to be a teacher. Lila married Kenneth Edwin Randles on March 1, 1941, in Albion, and the couple was blessed with three children. Lila taught in a one-room school house for five years before devoting her life to her family. She sold Avon products for many years as a means of sending her children to college. In addition to being devoted to her family, Lila enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening and canning the fruits of that garden, and was a self-taught expert in culinary arts. In later years, Lila volunteered with Meals on Wheels and as a resident advocate at Northcrest Community. She was very active at First United Methodist Church in Ames, where she was a member since 1946. Lila is survived by three children, Karen (Jim) Schwarz, of Dubuque, Loran (Sue) Randles, of New Castle, Colo., and Howard (Myra) Randles, of Ames; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Ward (Pat) Reynoldson, of Des Moines; one sister, Marian (Ken) Daugherty, of Newton; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, on Aug. 18, 1994 Family Connection made by Carolyn Russell #47500106.
