Description	:	Lila Luella Fletcher was born Jan. 12, 1916, at Orchard to George S. and Winnie (Nye) Fletcher. Aside from a few months when the family lived in Verdigre, her childhood and early years were spent in Orchard where she was graduated from high school in 1933. After attending Wayne State College for a year, Lila taught in District 30 of Antelope County. After receiving a two-year certificate, she taught in elementary grades in Ohiowa, Osmond, Atkinson, Hartington and Orchard. Read More	Lila Luella Fletcher was born Jan. 12, 1916, at Orchard to George S. and Winnie (Nye) Fletcher. Aside from a few months when the family lived in Verdigre, her childhood and early years were spent in Orchard where she was graduated from high school in 1933. After attending Wayne State College for a year, Lila taught in District 30 of Antelope County. After receiving a two-year certificate, she taught in elementary grades in Ohiowa, Osmond, Atkinson, Hartington and Orchard. She received her bachelor of arts degree in 1947 from Wayne State College where she was elected to Pi Gamma Mu and Sigma Tau Delta. Additional college hours were earned at Dana College, Chadron State, Colorado State and the University of Nebraska. She left teaching briefly in 1949 to work as a bookkeeper at the Bank of Orchard. In 1958, she came to Norfolk and spent the last 20 years of her 37-year teaching career at the Lincoln Elementary School in Norfolk. After retiring from teaching in 1978, she worked part time in the office at the Norfolk Monument Company. Lila was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church and joined Wesleyan Group of the Norfolk church. She also belonged to the Norfolk Area Retired Teachers. Her interests were in the production and in the recording of vocal and instrumental music, including the autoharp and keyboard, which she played. She was well known for her appreciation of humor and beautiful calligraphy.
