Description	:	Lillian "Ande" Evans was born on Dec. 29, 1920 in Reserve, and passed away on Dec. 30, 2018, at age 98. Her parents, Emil and Elsie Andersen farmed near Medicine Lake. They were of Danish descent and Lillian spoke little English before starting school. As a child she contracted scarlet fever which left her hearing greatly impaired. As a child she contracted scarlet fever which left her hearing greatly impaired. She attended a country elementary school and lived in town with friends while in high school. After graduation she moved to Billings and earned an RN degree at St. Vincent Hospital. In 1942, she met Robert (Bob) Evans, from Miles City. They married Nov. 23, 1943 in Salt Lake City where Bob was stationed with the Army. She acquired the nickname "Ande" as Bob said that he admired her spunk, but didn't like the name "Lillian". From then she as "Ande" except to family and friends in Medicine Lake. Ande and Bob had three daughters: Susan (1944), Linda (1947) and Karen (1951). The family built a house at 17th and Avenue F where they lived until 1964. During those years Ande worked as a nurse at Deaconess Hospital. Her favorite assignment was caring for the newborns. During her 30's she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, which slowed her down but didn't stop her. She had boundless energy and found it hard to sit still – watching TV or reading were a waste of her time. The only "sit down" activities she enjoyed were sewing and playing Scrabble (she never lost). She was an expert gardener and built a beautiful rock garden at their home on 64th Street West. Square dancing was Bob and Ande's passion. Despite the lingering effects of MS, most weekends found them out dancing. They bought a motor home and enjoyed traveling around the West, visiting family and friends. In Nov. 1993, as they were about to celebrate their 50th anniversary, daughter Linda was diagnosed with brain cancer. During the next two years all of their energy was devoted to supporting Linda and her family. Bob died of cardiac arrest in November 1995 and Linda passed away in July 1997. Ande moved to San Diego in 2003 to live near Karen and her husband, Mat. San Diego was OK but she missed Billings and her friends there. When Karen and Mat retired and moved to Arizona, she returned home to Billings. For 7½ years she lived in the Memory Care wing at Bonaventure (later Morningstar). In May 2017 she moved to Portland, Oregon, to be near Susan and her family. Lillian was preceded in death by her brother Albert and sisters Bernice and Ruby. She is survived by her youngest brother, Sheldon of Medicine Lake; daughter Susan Egan (Richard) of Portland, Oregon; daughter Karen Blackburn (Mat Mathews) of Casa Grande, Arizona; three grandchildren - Julian Marie Egan of Portland, Oregon, Brant Sherrodd (Pam) of Billings, Brandy Chapin (Wayne) of Port Orchard, Washington and four great- grandchildren - Katie, Ashley, Christian and Peyton. A family gathering will be held in Billings at a later date. The family wishes to thank the loving staff at Morningstar of Billings, Brookdale/Troutdale in Portland and, in particular, the staff at Hospice Care of the Northwest in Portland.
