Description	:	Lillian Reese November 27, 1905 - February 27, 2005 Lillian Reese was born on a farm in rural Schleswig, November 27, 1905, the daughter of George and Hanna Iversen Cassens. Read More	Lillian Reese November 27, 1905 - February 27, 2005 Lillian Reese was born on a farm in rural Schleswig, November 27, 1905, the daughter of George and Hanna Iversen Cassens. When she was a young age the family moved to the Climbing Hill area. She spent her early years on the farm in that area and was able to complete the sixth grade in country school before being needed to help on the family farm. Lillian was the second oldest of twelve children and even though it was a large family she always took great interest in their lives and reveled in their company throughout her life. She was introduced, at an early age, to hard work being needed in the operation of the farm along with her sister, Marguerite as well as doing domestic work. Lillian's father died when she was young and the family returned to the Schleswig area. After returning to the Schleswig area Lillian met H. Hugo Reese and they were united in marriage at her aunt and uncle Matt Jacobsen's home in Ida Grove, Iowa, June 16, 1926. Their union was blessed with five children, Arthur, Lewis, Marjorie, Dorothy and Dale. They made their home in Schleswig area living at many different locations. Aside from raising her family, Lillian was employed at the Schleswig theater, helped her husband run the concession stand at the Schleswig Ball Park, worked at the Schleswig Locker Plant as well as many other jobs. Hugo died July 2, 1979 and Lillian continued to make her home in Schleswig. In early years she enjoyed fishing with the neighbors ladies and, in later years, she enjoyed reading, listening to music, playing dominoes and playing cards with family and friends. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig and a charter member of the U.C.C. Dorcas where she enjoyed making quilts for many years. In early May of 2003 Lillian moved to the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa and it was there her death occurred Sunday afternoon, February 27, 2005. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 99 years and 3 months. Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Hugo, oldest son Arthur and his wife Emma, son Lewis, daughter, Dorothy Gomer, two grandsons, four brothers, George, Henry, and John Cassens and Robert Bumann and one sister, Kathren Schwartz. Those remaining to cherish her memory include her daughter, Marjorie and husband, Robert Reinking of Orange, California, son Dale Reese and wife, Kay of Schleswig, 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, two brothers, Albert Bumann and wife, Helen of Sturgis, Michigan and LeRoy Bumann and wife, Lori of Schleswig, four sisters, Minnie and Marguerite Hess, both of Marshall, Michigan, Hattie Susie of Cushing, Iowa and Marie Schwanz of Schleswig, sister-in-law Irene Bumann of Schleswig, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, March 4, 2005 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa, with the Rev. Chris Burtnett officiating. Music for the service included two congregational hymns, "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "I'm But A Stranger Here, Heaven Is My Home" with Wendy Bumann serving as organist. Pallbearers included Dennis Bumann, Donald Kragel, John Cassens, Jr., Vernon Lutz, Hans Reese and Vernon Susie. Interment was at the Morgan Township Cemetery, Schleswig, Iowa. Following the interment the family invited everyone in attendance to return to the church and join them for fellowship and a luncheon prepared and served by the Ladies guild.
