On March 18, 1947 she married Clarence Jay Vander Ploeg, son of Jacob Vander Ploeg and Effie Cook. They had a son named Steven Jay on June 15, 1952 who died the same day. They had two other children Curtis Jay Vander Ploeg and Cheryl Lynn Vander Ploeg. They were married for 57 years when Clarence passed away on September 28, 2004. Lillian lived until March 22, 2009 - just four days after what would have been her and Clarence's 62nd wedding anniversary. She was buried in Amsterdam Township Cemetery, next to her beloved husband. Lillian VanderPloeg KANAWHA -Lillian VanderPloeg, 84, of Kanawha, died Sunday (March 22, 2009) at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt. Funeral services for Lillian VanderPloeg will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church, Kanawha, with Pastor Steve Schultz officiating. Burial will take place in Amsterdam Township Cemetery, Kanawha. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at the Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East Second Street, in Kanawha, and will continue one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
