Prater, one of the few remaining early pioneer women in the valley, died early this morning at the Ellensburg General Hospital at the age of 79, following a lingering illness. Mrs. Prater was born Lillian Borden, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Borden, October 14, 1880 in Farmington, New Mexico. With her family she traveled West and settled for a short time in White Bluffs, Washington, and moved to Ellensburg when she was 10. She was the sixth of nine children in the Borden family. Mrs. Prater was born Lillian Borden, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Borden, October 14, 1880 in Farmington, New Mexico. With her family she traveled West and settled for a short time in White Bluffs, Washington, and moved to Ellensburg when she was 10. She was the sixth of nine children in the Borden family. Miss Borden was married November 8, 1899 in Ellensburg, to John Henry Prater and they lived on the Damman farm before purchasing their own place in the same area. She was a long-time member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include a brother, Zack Borden of Long Pine, Colorado; eight nephews including Calvin, Les and Bob Gardinier and Jess Prater of Ellensburg; seven nieces including Mrs. Howard Barnes, Mrs. Uno Olson and Mrs. Glenn Hogue of Ellensburg. She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Rev. Miller C. Lovett will conduct the funeral services at the Evenson Chapel at 2 p.m. Monday with burial to follow in the IOOF Cemetery. Ellensburg Daily Record, July 7, 1960
